Ph.D. Programs

Introduction

As an Institution that is a melting pot of academicians and practitioners, that encourages conversations with industry stalwarts, boasts of outstanding infrastructure and is committed to promoting research, TAPMI’s doctoral program offers the perfect opportunity to conduct high quality, innovative management research in a quiet, scholarly environment.
TAPMI is a constituent institute of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE). The doctoral degree is awarded by Manipal Academy of Higher Education upon successful completion of all requirements of the program. The doctoral program is aimed at candidates who possess a strong inclination for rigorous academic study and conduct research in close collaboration with one or more faculty guide(s) and fellow scholars.

Program Duration and Coursework

The full-time doctoral program is expected to take at least four years to complete and involves one year of rigorous coursework. Doctoral-level courses pertaining to, Research Methodology, Research and Publication Ethics, Quantitative Methods of Research, Pedagogical Issues in Teaching, Research Proposal Writing, and area-specific courses are expected to be completed during the course work.

Proposal Defense

Shortly after completion of coursework, the doctoral student prepares a comprehensive research proposal with the help of her/his guide(s) and committee members and defends the same in front of a specially constituted committee. The doctoral candidate is expected to defend her/his proposal successfully before being permitted to continue the research and complete the thesis.

Eligibility

A candidate seeking admission to the Ph.D. program MUST have an aggregate of 60 % or an equivalent grade, in any of the following qualifying degree in full-time mode.

  • An aggregate of 60 % or an equivalent grade in master’s, in any of the following, from an institution / university recognized by UGC / respective regulatory body
    o 1 year / 2 semester Master’s Degree, after a 4 year / 8 semester Bachelor’s Degree program
    o  2 year / 4 semester Master’s Degree after 3 year / 6 semester Bachelor’s Degree program
    o  2 year / 4 semester Master’s Degree after 4 year / 8 semester Bachelor’s Degree program
  • An aggregate of 75 % or an equivalent grade, in 4 year / 8 semester Bachelor’s Degree program, from an institution / university recognized by UGC / respective regulatory body

However, PhD applicants with bachelor degree are eligible to apply under full time category only.

SOP and Micro-presentation guidelines

SOP and Interview Guidelines

Statement of Purpose (SOP) is required as part of the evaluation criteria of IPM/BBA(Hons.) admissions process. It is evaluated for clarity and purpose, organization of thought and explanations that have shaped intention leading to this application.

The SOP should not exceed 750 words in total. Applicants are required to answer all six SOP questions as per the guidelines given. The total word count should not exceed 750 words. The SOP must be submitted in either PDF or JPEG format. Handwritten submissions will not be accepted under any circumstances.

A good statement of purpose should cover the following elements:

1. The factors that excite the candidate in a career and the reason for the same.

2. What accounts for the candidate’s interest in the program?

3. How in the candidate’s view the program relates to his/her career plans?

4. Where would the candidate like to be after the completion of the program and after 10 years?

5. What in the candidate’s views are his/her strengths and areas of improvement?

6. What are the challenges that the candidate sees ahead and how they will impact the career plans?
