Dr. Devasmita Jena holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Centre for International Trade and Development, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. Her research centres around international trade and development, international trade policy, geoeconomics and applied macroeconomics. Previously, Dr. Jena was Assistant Professor at Madras School of Economics (MSE) where she taught courses in International Trade and Applied Macro and Financial Econometrics to Post Graduate Economics programmes and Microeconomics to the PGDM programme. At MSE, she also supervised masters’ dissertations in the areas of international trade and applied macroeconomics.

Prior to embarking on academic journey, Dr. Jena worked in the Department of Economic and Policy Research, Reserve Bank of India where she handled several policy-oriented roles relating to macro-economic development, international trade, monetary system, and financial sector in India. She has also served as Officer on Special Duty to the Ministry of Finance (MoF), Government of India (GoI). At MoF, she worked in collaboration with various ministries in the GoI, financial sector regulators, and multilateral organizations on various macro-policies.

In her teaching as well as research, Dr. Jena strives to combine theory and praxis to engage in policy relevant questions. Besides teaching and research, Dr. Jena engages with broader audience in delivering invited lectures on international trade issues
