ALUMNI EPGDM Alumni Meet
TAPMI’s first EPGDM Alumni meet started off on a welcome note on 17th September, 2011 at Royal Orchid Palace, Bangalore. The EPGDM course was started by TAPMI way back in 1997. 62 alumni, who passed out from the 15 batches attended the meet.
Prof. Vinod Madhavan, of TAPMI CEE, welcomed the two chief guests, dignitaries and the alumni to the function. The chief guest of the day was Dr. K.R.S Murthy, former Director of IIM-B and the member of Governing Council of ISEC. Guest of Honour was Shri Devasis Chowdhury, Consultant – Business Development in Goodrich Aerospace Corporation and former CMD of MIDHANI Ltd., Hyderabad. The event began with the ceremonious lighting of the lamp. This was followed by a brief introduction of each Individual alumnus.
Prof. Simon George, Dean - Academics addressed the gathering. Prof. Simon expressed his happiness over so many alumni who could make it to the event. He cherished all his memories with the EPGDM batches. He called the alumni as the members of the TAPMI family, explained how TAPMI had evolved over all these years, from its humble beginnings to being one of the top premier B-schools in the country. Prof. Simon also said that TAPMI was moving onto the next level and wished that TAPMI would get all the support from its alumni in taking the institution to greater heights once its succeeds into International accreditation.
Dr. K.R.S Murthy, who holds TAPMI in high esteem, shared his memories of being involved from inception of TAPMI. He said that management involves essentially dealing with people and that’s what makes it more challenging. According to him, this experiential learning was one of the major stepping stone to success. The synergy between academics and practitioners in the industry is what he looked for, in the days to come. At this stage, he emphasized the importance of alumni in the growth and expansion of an institution.
Shri Devasis Chowdhury, Former Chairman & Managing Director of a PSU, MIDHANI and presently Consultant, Business Development in Goodrich Aerospace Corporation [a Fortune 500 company] was the Guest of honour of the day. Shri Chowdhury who brings in immense industry experience, quoted Swami Vivekananda’s words - “All strength is within you” and “You are the creator of your own destiny” and explained how these words hold importance for everyone even today. He stressed on leading a value-based life supported by morals. He said that, taking decisions in life was the most critical step in life for any manager. Spending time with oneself; taking a resolution to have zero tolerance towards unethical behaviour were the mantras that he gave for becoming successful in life. His speech which was filled with a lot of interesting incidents from his professional and personal life held audience’s interest till the end. He ended his inspirational speech by saying that life is full of challenges and all of us should be ready to take up such challenges.
It was time for the alumni to share their experiences. Three alumni not only shared their experiences, but also went to say as to how they could help TAPMI towards its growth and hence bring laurels to their alma mater. They offered suggestions to TAPMI continuing relationship, allowing research, offering Library services, availing MIP opportunities, etc.
Prof. Vinod Madhavan then took the audience through the developments that had happened in TAPMI over these years. He informed the alumni about the milestones that TAPMI had reached in the recent years. He also informed the alumni on the future plans of TAPMI in general and CEE, Bangalore in particular. Prof. Chowdari Prasad, Dean, Planning and Development proposed the vote of thanks.
It was then time for some informal interactions and lighter moments over a sumptuous dinner. Finally, the event ended on a happy note, with the alumni promising to have this meet every year so that they could be in touch with their batch mates as well as their alma mater.
