Post Graduate Diploma in Management – Healthcare(PGDM-Healthcare) of TAPMI combines the 25 years of experience of TAPMI in the field of management with the expertise available with Manipal University, renowned all over the world for its expertise in health care education and practice for more than five decades. The programme was designed under the guidance of an advisory committee headed by Padma Vibushan Dr. Valiathan, one of the most renowned personalities in medical field in the country. The programme was borne out of the feedback received from recruiters and other stake holders of the Institute, on the need and relevance of high quality management programme to address the skill requirement in fast growing health care sector in the country. This 2 year programme was approved by AICTE on 18th August 2010. The first batch (2010-2012) commenced on 14th September 2010.
The present program goes beyond traditional courses in Hospital Administration and Public Health and equips students to leadership position in the healthcare sector. Over two years students develop expertise in finance, strategy, marketing and entrepreneurship attuned to healthcare sector. In addition to hospitals and public health, the curriculum covers healthcare verticals like Biomedical Device, Pharmaceutical Industry, Healthcare Consulting, Healthcare Analytics, Medical and Para Medical Training, Healthcare Technology, Healthcare IT to name few.
Last two decades have witnessed exponential growth in the healthcare sector. FICCI-KPMG report 2015 ‘Healthcare: The neglected GDP driver.' suggest that India’s healthcare industry valued at $73.92 billion in 2011 is expected to grow to $ 280 billion by 2020. Foreign direct investment in the sector has doubled in last three years and both national and international business are showing keen interest in the sector. Growth in the sector is expected to continue as India lags far behind in terms of healthcare infrastructure, personal and technology. And unlike any other industry, healthcare has been and will remain of permanent national and global importance. Consequent to the growth of the sector the demand for the work force is expected to double to 7.4 million in 2022 (FICCI-KPMG 2015). Recent years have seen high demand of management professionals in health insurance, corporate hospitals, medical tourism and healthcare technology. The sector has ample scope for entrepreneurs of new generation and experts opine that disruptive frugal innovations are the key to growth of the sector, an area where management graduates have key role of play.
