About eGPX 1st Batch 2009-2010

The first eGPX programme of the country was launched by TAPMI in collaboration with NISG in April 2009.

The first batch of eGPX participants were a diverse group that came together for this programme from the North [Delhi, UP], South [Kerala, TN, Karnataka, Pondicherry], East [West Bengal, Jharkhand], West [Gujarat], Central India [MP] and the North Eastern region [Mizoram and Meghalaya]. They came with varied experiences from different fields [Healthcare, Police, Taxation, Education, IT, Power, etc.] and brought with them perspectives that were unique.

The batch of 2010 had a mix of professionals from the Government sector and the Private sector. The program attracted the attention of several States and Union Territories that sponsored candidates. 31 candidates joined the first eGPX batch of which 9 were from the private sector, while 22 were from the Government sector. 21 candidates [State Governments & Union Territories] were sponsored by DIT and the State Government concerned; 1 Central Government candidate was self-sponsored.

The 18-week Industry internship which formed part of the programme was received well by the industry. During this phase, participants got the opportunity to work with Private sector organizations and the Government sector in the eGovernance arena. IBM, KPMG, E & Y, Wipro consulting & NISG were the key recruiters.

Internship and Placement

The eGPX programme included an internship of 18 weeks with an organization actively engaged in the eGovernance domain. The internship was expected to enable the participants to work on live projects and explore future career prospects. The participants were required to submit a preliminary and a final internship report followed by presentation to a panel.

The candidates from both Government and Private sector were shortlisted based on their profiles. The stipend offered to the candidates ranged from Rs.30,000 p.m. to Rs.15,000 p.m.

Several Govt. sector candidates were selected for internships with private sector companies like Wipro, E & Y, IBM, KPMG, etc. This gave them an exposure to the private sector. All the private sector candidates were selected for internship with the above mentioned organizations and NISG. Every internship recruiter showed equal interest in selecting candidates from both sectors [Govt. & Pvt.].

Most of the candidates received Pre-placement offers from the organizations in which they completed internship. KPMG, E & Y and NISG were the prime recruiters. The average offer was for Rs. 9 lakh and the highest was Rs. 10.25 lakhs.

TAPMI organized an eGovernance conference to launch the eGovernance Centre and provide an opportunity to the participants to interact with practitioners from the field of eGovernance. The inaugural address was given by the Chief Guest Mr. M.N. Vidyashankar (IAS), Principal Secretary, e-Governance Department, Govt. of Karnataka. He spoke eloquently about the e-governance initiatives by the State government and stressed on the 'Bhoomi' and 'Kaveri' projects which were quite successful. He warmly congratulated TAPMI for its pioneering efforts in this area and for teaming up with NISG and the DIT for starting the first course of its kind on e-Governance for executives, which drew participants from the Goverment as well as the private sectors.

Prof Subhash Bhatnagar, senior faculty at IIM-A, delivered the keynote address wherein he recounted the history of e-governance in India, given his association with this field for almost 2 decades. Prof Bhatnagar is widely considered an authority on this subject and is also approached by the Government for views on the various e-gov activities in the country. He stressed the need to reach the most vulnerable strata through e-governance and identified it as a major enabler for good governance.

Several practitioners addressed the gathering and made the event memorable for the eGPX batch of 2010.

Valedictory program of eGPX Batch 1

T A Pai Management Institute celebrated the graduation ceremony of the first batch of the eGovernance Program for Executives (eGPX) on Thursday, February 18th, 2010 at its sprawling new campus in Manipal. Mr. Anand Sudarshan, Managing Director and CEO, Manipal Education, was the chief guest and delivered the Valedictory address. Mr.Piyush Gupta, GM, NISG and Mr.P.V.Sreenath, VP, IBM were present on the occasion. In all 30 participants 21 from the Government sector and 9 from the Private sector completed the program successfully.
