Mr.Chandramoulle started the session by introducing himself. He went on to explain the several roles he played in organizations like HSBC and City bank. He urged the audience to make the session interactive by asking questions. It was an enriching session where students asked questions and the guest went on to answering the questions throughout the session.
Mr. Chandramoulle explained how working in a real world of finance is different from what we learn in the class. In the real finance world, what really matters is how one can connect with clients and colleagues and work one’s way through all the challenges. Answering student’s question of whether finance is all about number crunching, he told that, numbers don’t always tell the story. He emphasized the importance of looking beyond numbers and developing and maintaining relationships with the clients. He suggested the importance of understanding the context of clients.
Mr. Chandramoulle went on to explain the concept of supply chain financing. He also suggested the growing importance of banking in India and the scarcity of talent. This opens up a huge career opportunities for students aspiring to become bankers. He also highlighted the importance of relationship managers in corporate banking and the challenges faced by a relationships manager. When questioned about the risk management in banks, he suggested it is important to spread the risks well.
It was an enriching session where students understood the different roles and responsibilities of variety of banking profiles ranging from portfolio management, risk management and corporate banking.
