About the Center
The Center for Research in Banking and Finance promoted by TAPMI is sponsored by AICTE, Govt. of India, New Delhi. The Center is dedicated to promoting high-quality research in financial economics, the creation of new data sets, and development of new teaching materials in the area of finance for the Institute’s PGDM, Executive Education and Doctoral programs. The Center is an eager sponsor of research that is of importance to the financial community of India.
The Center specializes in the study of Financial Institutions (including commercial banks, investment banks, managed funds and insurance companies), Corporate Finance and Capital Markets. The Center has several affiliated scholars at leading institutions, and it continues to define the research frontier, hosting a working paper series and a variety of conferences for academics and practitioners.
The Center supports its faculty with supplemental grants to be used for datasets, travel and subscriptions. In addition to using its resources to purchase important research-related databases and equipment, the Center also supports Ph.D. students.
Leadership of the Center
The Chairman of the Center is appointed by the Director of the Institute and serves for a term of 5 years. The Center has a Faculty Oversight Committee that consists of 4 members. This Committee consults with the Director regarding budgetary and oversight issues. Associate Professor Vishwanath is the current Chairman of the Center. The Faculty Oversight Committee consists of Chowdari Prasad (Dean, Planning and Development), Sunil Parameswaran, Simon George (Dean, Academics) and Vasudev Rao (Director-in-Charge and Dean, Administration).
Since the objective of the Center is to provide a platform for interaction between academics and the industry, the advisory board comprises leaders from both, the industry and academia.
The Industry Advisory Board guides the Center’s research and programming efforts. This group of senior executives, who provide input to Center’s management, represent a broad cross-section of the financial services industry. Board members are drawn from the banking and insurance sectors as well as mutual fund and specialty finance companies. They convey an in-depth appreciation of the competitive challenges facing financial services companies in a converging and consolidating environment.
Through an ongoing input from industry practitioners, the Center ensures that its activities and research remain focused on business issues and challenges deemed relevant to the industry we serve.
Apart from resident faculty, a number of international scholars are also involved with the Center’s activities.
