Message from Shri Shankar Aggarwal, IAS, Joint Secretary, e-Governance, DIT, Government of India

The efficiency of government today is recognized by the services it delivers to the citizens. Government of India is focusing on citizen-centric e-Governance.  A number of e-Governance initiatives undertaken by the government have proved to be very effective in several states in India. The need of the hour is to learn from these projects and replicate the learning in multitude of e-Governance projects being implemented across the country.

One of the major challenges faced by the Government in implementation of e-Government projects is the lack of trained professionals with the right set of skill-sets and knowledge to bring about efficient and sustainable change with the speed required to keep up with the best in the world. In NeGP, lack of requisite skills and capacity has been identified as key impediments to successful implementation of e-Governance initiatives in India.

Department of Information Technology (DIT) as part of the overall Capacity Building framework under NeGP, has entrusted the task to the National Institute for Smart Government (NISG) to identify institutions who could take forward the mission of creating a talent pool of e-Governance professionals in India. T. A. Pai Management Institute (TAPMI) was selected as the first management institute in the country to conduct a Post Graduate eGovernance Program for Executives [eGPX] in collaboration with NISG. DIT actively supported this initiative by sponsoring 21 candidates from State Governments to join the programme. The professionals who completed the programme helped bridge the need gap for qualified and efficient e-governance professionals in India.

The demand for e-governance professionals is growing and DIT hopes to see many more candidates joining the programme in the coming years. I am sure that the information contained in the brochure would generate active interest and encourage prospective students to apply for the course.

Best wishes

Shri Shankar Aggarwal, IAS, Joint Secretary, e-Governance, DIT, Government of India
