The Mandate:

cig.jpgThe Center for Inclusive Growth (CIG) believes that the diversity of our country brings with it, several opportunities and challenges to address the issues of Inclusive Growth. The challenges of rural diversity and remoteness, agricultural diversity and geographical and cultural diversity don't allow economic inclusivity to directly result in and/or  lead to overall development of the country. Added to these, changes in industrial  and agricultural  technologies; accessibility and availability of instruments of development brought-in a new set of challenges in terms of climate change impact on nature and people.

As such, to steer  the issues  of inclusiveness, it has become imperative to address the  economic inclusivity, along with social  inclusion and mitigation of climate change impact. Accordingly, CIG sets upon itself to work in consonance with the mission, and larger goals of the Institute.

CIG would focus on action research and experiential learning as its key tenets of functioning, with initiatives in social, economic and environmental inclusion of poor and marginalized through improved practices in agriculture, environment management and sustainable management of business enterprises of the country.

Towards this end, CIG would focus on:

  • Communities that are marginalized and outside the mainstream economic processes, social support systems such as healthcare, education, basic infrastructure as well as exposed to natural and man-made disasters and  risks;
  • Addressing basic human rights protection through climate change mitigation initiatives,
  • Entrepreneurial and social intervention models  to address carbon foot-print reduction through people's participation and technology orientation;
  • Education of vulnerable groups and communities in economic, environmental and social inclusion through entrepreneurship and management, and
  • Collaboration with local, national and international institutions that promote inclusive growth, so as to build academic and action research base for promotion of end-to- end solutions in critical sectors for achieving inclusive growth.

Program of Activities:

CIG would organize  the  below programs and activities and work with various stake holders to meet with the core requirements of achieving inclusiveness in various spheres of society:

a. Education and Training:

  1. Community education and executive education programs on all aspects of social, economic and environmental inclusion of vulnerable groups
  2. Full-time and  part-time  academic programs in social, environment and economic change;

b.Research and dissemination:

  1. Action research to build models of inclusive growth
  2. Collaborate with International institutions that offer resources for micro and macro level interventions for joint research for local adoption;
  3. Bring out publications that offer information and hand-holding of rural entrepreneurs to establish and run sustainable businesses;
  4. Hand-hold rural innovations for market out-reach and helping in building market linkages;

c. Social Responsibility Initiatives:

  1. Bridge the rural and remotely located poorer sections of the society with the enhanced life standards through a multi-partner collaborative series of projects involving corporate concerns, educational institutions and rural communities for creating and sustaining models  of inclusive growth of various communities and villages;
  2. Adoption of rural and urban communities initially in the surrounding areas of TAPMI campus- and subsequently in the other parts of the state of Karnataka, to develop low carbon footprint villages and urban communities using appropriate technologies in agriculture and rural enterprises so as to build scalable and replicable models of people's institutions for inclusive mode of living and sustenance;
  3. Promote appropriate linkages for social and market development through public-private-partnership models for long term sustainability
