About the Center

The Center for Research in Banking and Finance promoted by T. A. Pai Management Institute, Manipal, India, is sponsored by AICTE, Govt. of India, New Delhi. The Center is dedicated to promoting high-quality research in financial economics, creation of new data sets, and development of new teaching materials in the area of finance for the school's MBA, Executive Education and Doctoral programs. The Center is especially interested in sponsoring research which is of importance to the financial community of India.

The Center specializes in the study of financial institutions (including commercial banks, investment banks, managed funds and insurance companies), Corporate Finance and Capital Markets. The Center has several affiliated scholars at leading institutions, and it continues to define the research frontier, hosting a working paper series and a variety of conferences (academic and industry).

The Center supports its faculty with supplemental grants to be used for datasets, travel and subsriptions. In addition, the Center uses its resources to purchase important research related databases and equipment. The Center also supports Ph.D students.

Center Leadership

The Chairman of the center is appointed by the Director of the school and serves for a term of five years. The Center has a Faculty Oversight Committee which consists of four members. This Committee consults with the Director regarding budgetary and oversight issues. Associate Professor Vishwanath is the current Chairman of the Center. The Faculty Oversight Committee consists of Chowdari Prasad (Dean, Planning and Development), Sunil Parameswaran, Simon George (Dean, Academics) and Vasudev Rao (Director-in-Charge and Dean, Administration).

Advisory Board

Since the objective of the center is to provide a platform for interaction between academics and the industry, the advisory board comprises leaders from the industry and academia.

The Industry Advisory Board guides the center’s research and programming efforts. This group of senior executives, who meet formally to provide input to Center management, represents a broad cross-section of the financial services industry. Board members are drawn from the banking and insurance sectors as well as mutual fund and specialty finance companies. They convey an in-depth appreciation of the competitive challenges facing financial services companies in a converging and consolidating environment.

Through ongoing input from industry practitioners, the Center ensures that its activities and research remain focused on business issues and challenges deemed relevant to the industry we serve.
