TAPMI-CSU International Conference in Finance

The T.A Pai Management Institute (TAPMI) along with the Colorado State University (CSU) invites you to submit papers at its First International Conference in Finance.

Conference Theme: We invite submissions of high-quality papers from scholars conducting research in all areas of finance, including asset pricing, banking, corporate finance, corporate governance, financial institutions and markets and emerging capital markets. Accepted papers are eligible for best paper awards. The awards will be decided by an Awards Committee.

The conference is designed to encourage a high level of interaction among participants to exchange ideas and provide feedback. Papers will be evaluated based on the importance and relevance of the research problem, quality of the research design, use of novel datasets, and their insights and contributions to the academic literature. Each paper will be given 20 minutes for presentation followed by 10 minutes for the discussant and 15 minutes for questions from the audience.

Papers should be well developed, but at a stage where they can still benefit from the discussion at the conference. Please do not submit papers that have been accepted for publication or close to being accepted. Only completed papers will be considered.

The T A Pai Management Institute (TAPMI) located in the international university town of Manipal (Karnataka), is among the leading management institutes in India, and is reputed for its academic rigour and faculty-student interaction. Founded by the visionary, Late Shri. T. A. Pai, TAPMI’s mission is to provide much needed impetus to the task of building professional management capability in the country. In the process, it has also played a role in strengthening the existing educational and health infrastructure of Manipal.

Since commencement of the PG Programme in 1984, TAPMI has received recognition and respect amongst the well-known industrial houses and academic institutions in India for the quality of its education. Over the years, the institute has earned a name for its Post Graduate Programme in Management (equivalent to MBA) and the quality of student talent it has produced. Continuous improvements in the curriculum, structure, academic systems and faculty resources have contributed significantly to making TAPMI a preferred centre for management education. Today, over 3000 TAPMI alumni hold responsible managerial positions in India and abroad.

In early 2009, its 25th year running, TAPMI took a landmark step in its history by shifting its operations to a new scenic 42-acre residential campus in Manipal. Located on the side of a hillock and overlooking a valley filled with verdant tropical greenery, this campus provides an ideal setting for serious academic study and creativity, combined with entertainment and relaxation.

The new facility, which was developed at a cost of about Rs. 60 crores (US $ 12 million) includes a built up area of 3,20,000 sq. ft. to house modern, state-of-the-art, Wi-Fi-enabled, air-conditioned classrooms for students, plush offices for faculty and staff, a knowledge centre, a computer centre, a student’s centre, hostels for men and women, and residences for faculty and staff. The student’s centre is home to a canteen, a gym, a yoga and meditation room, an mini open-air theatre and a convenience store.

Paper submission process

The submission deadline is Thursday, January 20, 2015 and we will notify you of the Program Committee's decision by February 9, 2015. There is no submission fee for presenting authors. Non-presenters who wish to attend the conference will be charged INR 10,000 as delegate participation fee. Presenters are expected to meet their own travel arrangements. The accommodation for presenters would be provided by TAPMI in its hostels. Non-presenting delegates are expected to meet their own travel costs, while accommodation will be provided at TAPMI hostels.

Submission Format: Please submit (1) a blind copy of the manuscript without author information, and (2) a separate file for the cover page containing the paper title, abstract and authors' contact information.

Doctoral colloquium in Finance

A Doctoral colloquium in Finance will be organized in conjunction with the TAPMI-CSU First International Conference in Finance on April 17, 2015. The aim of the Colloquium is to provide an opportunity for doctoral scholars in finance to present and discuss their research with a distinguished panel of Indian and International faculty in an informal environment. Research scholars who have finished their course-work and have progressed beyond their initial proposal presentation are the most likely to benefit from the Colloquium.

The last date for submission of research proposals is January 31, 2015. The shortlisted proposals selected for presentation will be intimated by February 15, 2015.

Guidelines for Research Proposals

The research proposal should be in the form of an extended abstract not exceeding 3500 words. The proposal should be accompanied by a brief resume and a letter of recommendation by the main thesis advisor. The recommendation should provide a brief description about the progress made by the scholar and also any other relevant information supporting his candidature. Each scholar will get the opportunity to be paired with one of the distinguished panel members. TAPMI and CSU provide an ideal platform for doctoral scholars to benefit from the interactions with reputed scholars.

Shortlisted scholars for the colloquium are also required to be present for the Conference to be held on April 18, 2015. Scholars selected to participate in the Colloquium will be provided accommodation in the TAPMI Campus for the total duration. However, participants are expected to meet their own travel costs.

Dr. Rhee received his BA from Seoul National University Law School, MBA from Rutgers University, and Ph.D. from The Ohio State University. He is holding the Shidler Distinguished Professor of Finance and serves as Executive Director of the Asia-Pacific Financial Markets (FIMA) Research Center at the University of Hawaii. The overall objective of the FIMA Research Center is to spearhead both academic and policy research on financial markets in the Asia-Pacific region, integrating academic and practitioner viewpoints. The FIMA Research Center is globally recognized as a leading research institute in the area of Asian financial markets and banking systems and it is the home of the Pacific-Basin Finance Journal, a premier academic journal focusing on Asia-Pacific capital markets and financial systems. Dr. Rhee is managing editor of the Journal. He is currently holding a joint professorship at Monash University (Australia) since September 2011. He served as the chairman of the Asian Shadow Financial Regulatory Committee (ASFRC) in 2004-2007. The ASFRC is a part of the Global Shadow Financial Regulatory Committees which include the committees of United States, Europe, Japan, Latin America, Australia/New Zealand, and Asia. The ASFRC is charged to identify and analyze developing trends and ongoing events in Asia that may affect the efficiency and safe operation of financial markets and the financial services industry; to explore the spectrum of short- and long-term implications of emerging problems and policy changes; to help develop private, regulatory and legislative responses to problems that hinder efficiency; and to assess and respond to proposed and actual public policy initiatives with respect to the impact on the public interest. Finance Conference Research Paper Presenters

  • There are no TAPMI-CSU International Conference Registration or Submission Fees.
  • All presenters will be provided accommodation at TAPMI campus.
  • Presenters are expected to meet their own travel arrangements.

Doctoral Colloquium Proposal Presenters

  • There are no TAPMI-CSU Doctoral Colloquium Registration or Submission Fees.
  • Scholars selected to participate in the Colloquium will be provided accommodation in the TAPMI Campus for the total duration.
  • Scholars will also be reimbursed the travelling cost (III tier AC Railway fare or actuals whichever is lower) as stipulated in TAPMI policy.
